Frenkie de Jong has extended his contract with FC Barcelona until the summer of 2029. The Catalan club announced this on Wednesday, putting to bed issues surrounding the 28-year-old’s initial deal that was set to expire this year.
According to Spanish media, De Jong will reportedly earn around €9-10 million in his new deal, which will take effect from next summer. His release clause has also been increased from €400m to €500m.
The Oranje midfielder has so far played 267 official matches for Barça. The only Dutchman to have played more matches for Barcelona is Phillip Cocu with 292 matches.
So far in his Blaugrana career, De Jong has won two league titles, two Copa del Reys, and two Spanish Super Cups. He also regularly captains the side under Hansi Flick.
