Frenkie de Jong has insisted "there will be time for everything" when it comes to a decision on his future at Barcelona.
De Jong has been linked with a departure seemingly incessantly over the past few years but is now at a real crossroads in his career. The Dutch midfielder has entered the final 18 months of his contract and has reportedly been warned that he must agree fresh terms in the coming months if he wants to avoid being sold in the summer.
However, Relevo recently reported that Barcelona have ended all communication with De Jong after growing tired of dealing with his agent. The plan is to meet with the midfielder at the end of the season, giving him just a matter of weeks to agree an extension before being transfer listed.
Further complicating things has been De Jong's struggle for starts since returning from his ankle injury. Sunday's 7-1 win over Valencia was the 27-year-old's fifth start of the season across all competitions, but he insisted he remains happy in Catalonia when quizzed on his future after the game.
"I feel very good at Barcelona," De Jong told reporters. "I'm just focused on the present, and then there will be time for everything."
Barcelona, who have withdrawn an offer to De Jong after seeing it go unsigned, have already made it clear behind the scenes that any player who chooses to enter the final year of their contracts will be banished from all first-team activities until they either extend or accept a move away.
