Frenkie de Jong speaks out on Barcelona future | OneFootball

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has this weekend provided an insight into his future with the club.

This of course comes amid ongoing negotiations to renew the Dutchman’s contract in Catalunya’s capital.

De Jong is for his part fresh off something of a bounce-back campaign in 2024/25, which saw the former Ajax man reestablish himself as a key figure at Barcelona.

Under the watch of new boss Hansi Flick, the 28-year-old shone from his berth at the base of the Blaugrana engine room, striking up a brilliant partnership with Pedri.

Such efforts have culminated in talks long being kicked back into gear, over renewing De Jong’s contract terms – due to expire in 12 months’ time.

Speaking to the media this weekend, the subject of these discussions was therefore put to the midfielder himself.

And, in quotes provided to Voetbal Zone and relaid by Fabrizio Romano, De Jong appeared optimistic in his response:

“I think I’m going to renew my contract at Barça, but you can never say that with 100% certainty. If everything goes well, it will happen. I hope it happens, I’m happy at Barça.”
