Lazio have been handed the opportunity to sign West Ham United striker Niclas Fullkrug, who had a forgettable Serie A experience last season.
Gennaro Gattuso has made it clear that signing a new centre-forward is a top priority for the club. His current options for the role are Petar Ratkov, Boulaye Dia, and Gabriele Artistico, who returned from a Serie B loan spell. The versatile Tijjani Noslin is also capable of filling this role, but none of these options has truly convinced the new Lazio head coach.
In recent days, Fullkrug’s name has emerged on the scene, explains Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla. The German international has been proposed to Lazio and Genoa. However, the Biancocelesti aren’t entirely convinced by the 33-year-old, as they continue to dream about signing his former AC Milan teammate, Santiago Gimenez.
Fullkrug is a Werder Bremen youth product who represented a host of German clubs throughout his career, including Borussia Dortmund. In 2024, he completed a €27 million switch to West Ham, but he hasn’t been able to thrive in East London, only scoring three goals in 29 appearances.
When the Hammers signed Taty Castellanos from Lazio in January, Fullkrug joined AC Milan on loan, but endured a miserable spell under Max Allegri. He was only able to net once in 20 outings. The Hannover native returned to West Ham this summer, as he still has a contract valid until June 2028, but the Championship club is keen to offload him.
At this stage, Lazio have more reasons to avoid signing Fullkrug than to pursue him. The same could be said about Armando Broja, who has also been proposed to the Italian capital side following his woeful season at Burnley. However, it remains to be seen whether the Biancocelesti can secure Gimenez or end up chasing a lower profile.
