Zinedine Zidane looks closer than ever to returning to the dugout with reports in France suggesting he's preparing to succeed Didier Deschamps as head coach of the French national team.

Deschamps current deal with the French Football Federation runs until 31 Jul 2026 covering the upcoming World cup in the U.S, Canada and Mexico.

As of now no talks have been announced to extend his tenure beyond that date.

Zidane’s Plan for Les Bleus

According to L’Equipe, Zidane believes he'll take charge of France after the 2026 World cup. The 1998 World cup winner's reportedly waiting patiently for his opportunity and has already begun following ligue 1 and other european leagues to monitor emerging French talents.

Zidane’s Glittering Record

The former Real Madrid boss managed 263 game winning 174 match and collecting impressive 11 trophies. His silverware includes:

  • 3 Champions League titles
  • 2 Super Cups
  • 2 Club World Cups
  • 2 Spanish Super Cups
  • 2 La Liga titles

A Natural Successor?

With his iconic status and proven track record, Zidane's widely seen as the natural heir to Deschamps. For many in France, his appointment feels less like question of if and more of when.
