Paco Lloret’s Una breve historia del Valencia CF en 10 goles turned its Tuesday launch at the Ateneo Mercantil into a celebration of eras, using 10 strikes to tell the club’s story.

Joined by journalist Alfonso Gil, he guided an emotional journey from Mundo in the 1940s to Rodrigo Moreno’s Getafe goal that shook Mestalla in 2019. According to Superdeporte, clips were screened and discussed in a radio style setting.

Attendees included Forment, scorer of the decisive 1971 league goal, and Miguel Tendillo, the 1983 saviour. Kempes, Rubén Baraja and Mista appeared via video.

Former players Sempere, Adorno and Darío Felman were present. Lloret said omitting Felman’s extra-time winner against Barcelona in the 1979 Copa del Rey was painful. The 10 also span Gaizka Mendieta’s 1999 final strike and Ariel Ortega’s 1998 Camp Nou comeback.

Lloret said the cover, an Emilio Viña image from 1977-78 with Kempes celebrating, was picked for symbolism. Kempes won a second Pichichi with 28 goals that season.

He contrasted that era’s ambition and a hands-on board with today, citing signings like Bonhof, Solsona, Saura, Felman, Diarte and Rep. He felt Kempes’s injury checked a title push and that rivals feared Mestalla.

The finale revisits Rodrigo Moreno’s quarter-final strike that set Marcelino’s side on course for the cup. Since then, Javi Guerra’s 2023 winner against Valladolid stands out, and Lloret frames the book as pedagogy that underlines Valencia CF’s historic stature.
