Two years after playing in Segunda Federación, CE Sabadell are back in Segunda División and will be Castellón’s first visitors at Castalia. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, they start at Sporting de Gijón on Monday 17 August, then come to Castalia on Sunday 23 at 19.00.

The Catalans have climbed with back-to-back promotions, 2024-25 to Primera Federación then 2025-26 to Segunda. They finished on 68 points and conceded just 27, the best defensive record in the competition.

Promotion came through the play-offs. They beat Real Madrid Castilla 3-0 at home, then recovered from a 1-0 away defeat to Zamora with a 4-0 home win.

Head coach Ferran Costa is 31, the youngest manager in the division, and begins his first Segunda campaign. His Sabadell were compact and intense, and the club’s immediate target is simply to consolidate in professional football.

Experience has been added. Edgar González arrives from Almería after more than 180 games across the top two tiers and a Copa del Rey with Betis, Pere Pons, 33, joins from AEK Larnaca, and winger Yanis Rahmani signs from Cartagena.

Castellón’s focus will likely include goalkeeper Diego Fuoli, centre-back Bonaldo, midfielder Quadri, and Joel Priego, decisive late last term. Up front, Miguelete has 17 goals in his two seasons and is contracted to 2028.

The clubs met in pre-season on 18 July, Castellón won 2-0 through Álvaro García and Miguelón. Monday’s match in Gijón should offer Castellón a first competitive read on Sabadell.
