Liverpool fans have been debating whether or not FSG should sack Arne Slot.

The Dutchman got off to the best possible start at Anfield - winning the Premier League title in his first season as head coach.

Despite £450m worth of signings in last summer’s transfer window however the Reds have got worse - not better. It has led to speculation that the club’s owners may opt to make a change in the dugout either before the end of the season or else in summer.

And if Slot were to leave then Xabi Alonso is widely seen as a potential successor. The Spaniard, 44, is out of work after leaving Real Madrid in January.

But it’s the ex-Liverpool midfielder’s work as Bayer Leverkusen head coach that really put him on the radar.

Alonso turns down FSG

He coached a team including Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz to an unbeaten German league and cup double in 2024. Back then he was seen as a Liverpool manager-in-waiting but wanted another year with Leverkusen before making another decision.

But fans hoping that Alonso would be coming back to Anfield are set to be disappointed as FSG distance themselves from an appointment.

According to a report from Sam Wallace in the Telegraph the Boston-based owners have got no intention of appointing Alonso as their next head coach.
