Cameron Ashia is wanted by a whole host of EFL clubs

Everyone connected to Huddersfield Town will still be licking their wounds at what has to go down as an underwhelming 2025-26 season in League One.

The Terriers were taking part in their second year in succession in the third tier, having finished 10th in 2024-25, and they could only go one better in their most recent campaign, as well as being three points better off too.

The experiment of handing former EFL goalkeeper Lee Grant his first managerial role did not go to plan, with chairman Kevin Nagle deciding to part company with his services in January, and in came Liam Manning just months after his Norwich City sacking - although personal reasons meant that the season was seen out by the joint interim care of Martin Drury and Jon Stead.

It would be no surprise if there was a signifcant change in personnel when it comes to the playing squad this summer after once again failing to reach at least the play-off places, and one individual in particular is attracting plenty of attention - not just on British shores but also in Europe.

Since the turn of the year, there has been plenty of interest in the future of Cameron Ashia, who has turned some heads despite rarely starting for Huddersfield's first-team.

The Wandsworth-born attacking midfielder/winger only entered professional academy football in 2022 when joining Derby County, but after failing to make the grade beyond their under-18's, Ashia joined the Terriers in April 2024, and he hasn't looked back after being called up from their B-team at the start of the 2025-26 season.

The 21-year-old marked his league debut with a goal off the bench against Reading back in August 2025, and he finished the season finding the back of the net six times in all competitions, although he only started four times from his 21 League One appearances.

It has not stopped clubs being interested in Ashia though, irrespective of his one-year contract option being triggered, extending his deal until the summer of 2027.

The nephew of Nottingham Forest forward Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ashia has been tracked by Old Firm pair Rangers and Celtic for a number of months, but as per the Daily Mail, a whole host of other clubs, including Marco Silva's Fulham, are now in the hunt for the young winger.

The Cottagers - who along with the Gers and the Hoops have enquired over Ashia - are joined by Burnley, Ipswich Town, Cardiff City, Southampton and Sheffield United in that mix, with Bundesliga duo Stuttgart and Hoffenheim also keen.

It is reported that Huddersfield may sell Ashia for as little as £500,000, although it remains to be seen whether or not the large interest in the tricky attacker's services creates somewhat of an auction down the line.

Cameron Ashia could have a breakout year if he stays at Huddersfield Town

It's not very clear as to who Huddersfield's manager will be next season, but one thing that is for sure is that Ashia is a player that has potential and ability.

The fact that Town's successor to Lee Grant in the form of Liam Manning did not like to play with wingers perhaps scuppered Ashia from kicking on in the second half of the campaign, but perhaps a change of tact next season could see his strengths of dribbling at a full-back played to.

However, if Ashia doesn't play ball on signing an extended contract, then Huddersfield may have to take what they can get for him this summer, as if his current contract is still in play as of January 2027, non-English clubs can then take advantage with a pre-contract agreement.

It may be better business sense if Town get a fee and a sell-on clause therefore for the attacker, but if it's regular game-time he wants, 2026-27 could be a big one for Ashia with the right manager, system, and ideally with Huddersfield.
