According to NY Times, Fulham have held talks with former Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa about succeeding Marco Silva.
Silva left Craven Cottage after five years at the end of the season and has since been announced as Jose Mourinho’s replacement at Benfica.
Arbeloa’s six-month spell at the Santiago Bernabeu ended on Tuesday, clearing the path for Mourinho’s return. He had been the reserve-team coach and was appointed on 12 January after Xabi Alonso was sacked.
Fulham are now searching for a new head coach. Silva, appointed in 2021, won the Championship in his first season, then oversaw a period of Premier League consolidation.
They finished 11th in 2025 with a club-record 54 Premier League points, and matched that position this term after a final-day 2-0 win over Newcastle United.
A right-back in his playing days, Arbeloa won two European Cups with Madrid and earned 56 Spain caps, winning the World Cup and two European Championships between 2008 and 2012. He also played for Liverpool, West Ham United and Deportivo La Coruna.
His Madrid reign began with a shock Copa del Rey exit to second-tier Albacete. The team lost a Champions League quarter-final 6-4 on aggregate to Bayern Munich and finished second in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona.
