Fulham could be dealt an early-summer setback, with Marco Silva reported to have a verbal agreement to join Benfica. According to talkSPORT, the 48-year-old would return to his home city of Lisbon on terms worth around £4m per year, roughly half of Fulham’s £8m offer. The Portuguese club are seeking a successor to Real Madrid-bound Jose Mourinho, and Fulham are said to be awaiting formal communication from Silva.

Any exit would be a blow for a likely Leeds rival next season. The Whites finished 14th, five points behind Fulham in 11th, and the sides shared one win apiece.

Silva has been central to Fulham’s progress, with his contract expiring this summer after months of uncertainty. Craven Cottage chiefs have been keen to keep the head coach despite an underwhelming transfer window. He took charge in 2021 after relegation and led an instant return as Championship title winners.

Benfica can offer regular title tilts and Champions League qualification, and a move would take Silva back to Lisbon. That prospect could explain the pull towards a return home.

Fulham also face a decision on winger Harry Wilson, who is out of contract this summer. The Wales international delivered 10 goals and seven assists in 36 league appearances after attracting Leeds interest on deadline day in summer 2025. He is expected to have multiple suitors, and interest from Elland Road may persist.
