A fundraiser has been launched to support Cherries legend Tommy Heffernan as he recovers from a stroke suffered last month. The left side of his brain was affected, impacting speech and motor control.

Zoe said, "Currently, he's still in an acute phase of recovery." She told the Daily Echo.

She said, "He had to have a thrombectomy to remove the clot. So currently, his ability to communicate, he still can say a couple of words, a couple of swear words, so his personality is still shining through!"

She added, "But unfortunately, there's no power on the right side at the moment." "So he's in St. Vincent's in Dublin, which is a fantastic hospital."

"But my intention is to raise funds for the step-down process, when we may need to get him rehabilitation in a private clinic, more one-to-one specialist support with occupational therapists on a more regular basis." "Just to get the best really care possible for my dad, really."

Heffernan had two spells at Bournemouth, helping the club win promotion to the third division in 1981/82 and to the second division in 1986/87. The full back made 217 appearances and scored 27 goals, and also played for Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United, Poole Town, Swanage Town and Bournemouth Poppies.
