Gabi Zanotti reviews season, takes charge and eyes changes at Corinthians

Corinthians concluded their participation in the final of the Women's Paulista Championship at Canindé with a victory, but without the title. After a 5-1 defeat to Palmeiras in the first leg, the alvinegra team won the return match 1-0, a result insufficient to overturn the rival's advantage. After the match, midfielder Gabi Zanotti gave an interview in the stadium's mixed zone.

In a firm tone, the number 10 highlighted that the final result was a consequence of what happened in the first match and did not mince words to describe the team's attitude. The player also expressed discomfort with the disappointment caused to the fans and emphasized the need for internal changes for Corinthians to compete at a high level again.

“We didn't lose today, we lost this title in the first match. It was, as I said during the week, really a disgrace. Man, I was ashamed of what happened there. I think our fans don't deserve this. It's a behavior, an attitude that we need to erase.”, the player began.

Analyzing the performance throughout the season, Gabi pointed out inconsistency as one of the team's main problems. According to her, the lack of a consistent sequence of good performances ended up reflecting in decisive moments. For the athlete, Corinthians needs to deliver more on the field throughout the year.

“I think this inconsistency in our season is a reflection of many things that happen sometimes during the year. And we need to deliver more. We didn't present, all year, a sequence of convincing games. I'm making a summary, a brief summary of our year.”, she said.

Asked about her future at the club, the midfielder confirmed that talks for a contract renewal have begun but are still in the early stages. Despite this, Gabi made it clear her desire to remain at Corinthians and continue contributing to the team's sports project.

“Regarding my renewal, we are starting, initiating a conversation, but nothing is defined yet. But yes, my desire is to stay.”, said the Corinthians midfielder.

Even when talking about individual matters, the player reinforced the sense of collective responsibility and took her share of the blame for the team's performance. Gabi emphasized that Corinthians cannot settle for less and needs to maintain the mentality of competing for all titles, as the club's tradition dictates.

“I do not exempt myself from my responsibilities. I take everything, I made my mistakes here. But we cannot settle for less. Corinthians is a team that has always fought for all titles, reached all finals. And we have to continue with this mentality.”, she stated.

Finally, the number 10 once again called for deep changes and greater commitment for the next season, which will have new challenges on the calendar. Unhappy with the elimination, Gabi Zanotti made it clear that she does not accept watching decisions from home and reinforced the need for collective evolution for Corinthians to remain competitive.

“The demand has to be always high, because this team is used to fighting for titles. I do not conform to watching a final from home. I will never accept that. We need to put more on the field, show more, and change a lot if we want to keep fighting for titles.”, concluded the midfielder.

Currently, seven players have contracts valid only until the end of this year: Kemelli, Mariza, Erika, Paulinha, Letícia Santos, Gabi Zanotti, and Eudimilla. Mariza and Kemelli have already confirmed their departures from the club, while Eudimilla and Letícia Santos have received offers from other Brazilian football teams. Corinthians is also considering signing specific reinforcements for the next season.
