Gabi Zanotti urges Corinthians to improve, eyes Women's Club World Cup

Last Saturday, the 18th, Corinthians became the Libertadores champion after defeating Deportivo Cali in penalties, 5 x 3, following a 0-0 draw in regular time. After the final whistle, midfielder Gabi Zanotti celebrated the victory but called for the team to improve for upcoming challenges.

“Very happy with this moment I'm experiencing in my career. It could have been less stressful, right? As I said from the beginning, my main goal in this competition was to be champion and secure a spot in the Club World Cup. I push myself a lot, I push the group a lot, and the first thing there, when the game ended, I said, man, we need to play more, we need to deliver more given the quality we have in the squad.”, she began.

“We need to improve, now already thinking about the Club World Cup, analyze the teams, I think it will be a very interesting matchup. We're going all in, now we have the Paulistão, let's rest a little, there's the Paulistão and then prepare for the World Cup.”, continued the number 10 in the stadium's mixed zone.

Despite the anticipation for the World Cup, Gabi Zanotti's contract with Corinthians ends in December. The player chose not to go into details about a possible renewal and highlighted the fatigue she faced with the Libertadores competition.

“Ah, so, my contract ends now, right, in December. Everything was so rushed in these last months, I really, I give my all, yes, a lot for everything, here in the Libertadores it was an immersion, it's very exhausting to play six games in sixteen days, it's a competition that consumes you mentally, you stay focused.”, said Zanotti.

“Of course, there's an afternoon off, but it's different being in your day-to-day routine in Brazil, so it's worth considering for future editions, thinking about a different format, when it comes to the knockout stage, home and away games, even to attract more audience.”, she continued.

“Because it's a competition, man, very special, and as I said, humanly it's impossible to arrive and perform, deliver your physical part. We could have played much better and now we will start thinking ahead. Let's celebrate this moment, rest, because this group deserves it.”, she added.

The Corinthians midfielder was also asked if the 2025 Libertadores victory had a special taste due to the World Cup qualification and revealed that it did. For Zanotti, this is the most important competition in Corinthians' history, for the opportunity to take the club's name to the rest of the world.

“Ah, for sure. This is the most important competition in Corinthians' history, women's football. It was something we put on the board, as our mission back in 2018, which was to make Corinthians' name recognized worldwide, not just in South America, and now we will have this opportunity. We are very happy.”, she stated.

Now, a FIFA date is happening in women's football and Corinthians returns to Brazil with an eye on the final stretch of the Paulistão Feminino. The world competition takes place only at the beginning of next year, between the end of January and the beginning of March, before the Brazilian calendar starts.
