Santos goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão has been banned for four matches by the STJD, Brazil’s sports court, for insulting referee Raphael Claus in a post-match interview after the 1-1 draw with Palmeiras in the Brasileirão.
According to Globo.com, the third disciplinary commission applied article 243-F of the Brazilian sports code, which covers offences against honour. An appeal is available, and the club has requested a suspensive effect.
After the draw at Palmeiras’ ground, Brazão complained about a second-half booking and suggested that, at their rivals’ home, marginal decisions tend to favour the hosts.
Unless a stay is granted, he will miss Saturday’s match against Vitória at Vila Belmiro, scheduled for 20:00 Brasília time. It would be the team’s final game before the World Cup break.
Alongside the suspension, he was fined R$ 4,000. Cuca is expected to select Diógenes, the back-up goalkeeper who has already deputised this season.
