Leeds United claimed an important 2-1 win over Manchester United to move closer to securing their stay in the Premier League last night.
While Noah Okafor will get most of the plaudits following his brace, Gabriel Gudmundsson also produced a fine performance.
Gudmundsson created one big chance and played one key pass. He won five of his nine duels and won a foul. He was a terrific outlet down the left flank.
The 26-year-old completed three out of four dribbles and progressed the ball with intent. The Swedish international delivered one of his best performances this season.
If other players can perform like Gudmundsson did today in the next six league games, Leeds should have enough to stay up.
Gudmundsson has been one of Leeds’ most reliable performers this season. He has helped keep three clean sheets in the league and created four big chances.
He gave his thoughts on the performance and how much the first win at Old Trafford in 44 years means to the Leeds squad after the match/
“I am super proud,” he said (via LeedsUnited.com).
“We had a tough game against West Ham in the FA Cup, where we got to the semi-finals and then came to Old Trafford. It was a really difficult game, but we showed so much character today.
“We showed up, and we showed our quality. We don’t back down. We came here to try to win points.
“I am super proud of the boys who fought through the whole game. We have a big game coming up, so we need to stay focused for the next game.
“We came here today with a lot of confidence and character. We showed that today, so we definitely deserved the three points.”
Leeds United return to action this weekend at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
