Arsenal face a nervous wait to discover the extent of Gabriel's hamstring injury amid initial fears that he faces a significant spell on the sidelines.

Gabriel received treatment on the pitch from the Gunners' medical staff, but it was quickly established that the Brazilian could not continue, and he soon limped from the pitch.

The suspected hamstring injury comes at the worst possible time for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, who next week face Real Madrid in the first leg of their season-defining Champions League quarter-final.

Arteta confirmed after the game that Gabriel, along with Ben White and Jurrien Timber, who picked up knocks before the game and during, respectively, will be assessed in the coming days.

Gunners legend Ian Wright, who was watching the game for Premier League Productions, fears Gabriel will miss both legs of the quarter-final and any potential Champions League semi-final.

"It is very concerning because, for me, the way he’s pulled up, that’s not two weeks," he said. "That’s like six weeks at least. He could be out for the season, depending on what happens with Arsenal.

"But that’s a massive blow for us, with him and without him there’s a massive difference. He is someone that is vital to what Arsenal are doing."

Tim Sherwood, the former Tottenham player and then manager, predicted a similar timeline while reporting on the game live for Sky Sports.

"Gabriel is holding his hamstring and needs to go down... this does not look good," he said on Sky Sports News.

"This is really bad news for Arsenal as if it is bad, it could be his season over and they have Real Madrid coming up. He will not be the first player to do his hamstring trying to chase Traore!"
