Gabriel Jiménez Carpintero, 18, became Racing’s first scorer of 2026/27 with a late equaliser at Real Sociedad in Zubieta. He played the whole second half at left back.
With Real 1-0 up late on, Andrés Martín went long for Pau Mascaró, who kept it in and found Iñigo Vicente. The Derio winger teed up Gaby Jiménez, who swept a low finish inside Álex Remiro’s left post for 1-1. As reported by AS, he netted a similar effort in only his second Rayo Cantabria game.
Born in Santander and raised in Pronillo, he started at Nueva Montaña, then spent three seasons at Bansander, before joining Racing at nine at La Albericia. Last term he shone in Sergio Matabuena’s División de Honor side and made seven outings for Ezequiel Loza’s Rayo in Segunda Federación. He is from the same generation as Jorge Salinas and Sergio Martínez.
A Physiotherapy student at Escuela Universitaria Gimbernat-Cantabria, he has also recovered from fibula surgery. Although used mainly as a left winger last season, the club see greater upside from him starting deeper on the right thanks to his power and speed. For now he is operating on the left.
Racing have renewed his deal to 30 June 2028. He also trained frequently with José Alberto López’s first team last season. Explosive from a standing start, he can play as a winger or a full back.
