Galatasaray travel to Liverpool tonight aiming to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for only the third time.
The Turkish champions head to Anfield with a 1-0 lead, having secured a second home victory over Liverpool in this season's competition.
However, Okan Buruk's side have a torrid record on the road against English opposition. In theChampions League era, Galatasaray have won just one of their 10 meetings with Premier League teams in England, losing seven.
Their sole win came atManchester United during the 2023-24 group stage. After some calamitous Manchester United defending, the visitors twice came from behind to seal a 3-2 win at Old Trafford, as Mauro Icardi's late double downed Erik ten Hag's 10-man side.
On only two other occasions have Galatasaray avoided defeat on English soil. A thrilling tie at Manchester United ended 3-3 during the 1993-94 season, when Eric Cantona's late equaliser rescued a draw for the Red Devils. United had led 2-0 inside 14 minutes, but required Cantona's late leveller after conceding three times to fall behind.
Galatasaray progressed from that tie on away goals after a goalless draw in Istanbul. However, a year later, Gala were thrashed 4-0 in a group stage game at the same venue.
Galatasaray also secured a goalless draw at Liverpool during the 2001-02 second group stage. Both fixtures between the teams ended all square, results that, if repeated, would take the Turkish side through this evening.
