Victor Osimhen was forced to leave the pitch early on September 6, 2025 in Uyo, during the Nigeria-Rwanda match (1-0). The Galatasaray striker was flown back to Istanbul, where medical examinations revealed a moderate sprain of the ankle ligaments.

The Nigerian international had to make way for Cyriel Dessers as early as the 35th minute in the clash against the Amavubi. This forced substitution came after a collision that left him limping on the Godswill Akpabio Stadium turf in Uyo. The medical staff quickly decided not to take any risks with their star forward. A private jet, dispatched by Galatasaray, brought the former Napoli striker back to Istanbul on Sunday, while his teammates headed to Bloemfontein to face South Africa.

Back in Turkey, Osimhen was immediately taken care of by the Istanbul club's specialists.

"During examinations carried out today at our partner hospital on our first team player, Victor Osimhen, a moderate sprain of the ankle ligaments (with stretching and bleeding) was diagnosed. The necessary treatment has started so he can return to the field as soon as possible," stated Op. Dr. Yener İnce, first team doctor at Galatasaray.
