Galatasaray denounced refereeing standards in Türkiye after beating Fenerbahçe 3-0 in Sunday’s Intercontinental Derby at RAMS Park, saying in a statement published late Monday that decisions reflected bias and malice aimed at shaping the title race.
The win, delivered by Victor Osimhen and Barış Alper Yılmaz, came amid flashpoints. A first-half Galatasaray goal was disallowed and the hosts were angered by what they felt was lenient discipline for heavy challenges.
The club also criticised the Video Assistant Referee, arguing the prolonged checks on key incidents involving their forwards laid bare the officials’ hostility. They added that winning would not distract them from what they consider injustice off the pitch, alleging incompetence and malicious intent to impede their progress.
The intervention lands in one of the tightest Süper Lig campaigns in years, with the rivals locked in a high-stakes race. The Turkish Football Federation has been under pressure this season to reform the Central Referee Committee, and Galatasaray’s broadside was framed as a push for foreign VAR officials in the run-in, a proposal debated among the league’s Big Four.
As the season enters its final stretch, the refereeing dispute risks eclipsing the calibre of football on show from the likes of Osimhen and Edin Džeko. Galatasaray signalled they will keep speaking out, victory or not.
