Galatasaray are reportedly targeting a move in the January transfer window for out-of-favour Milan striker Luka Jovic to replace the injured Mauro Icardi, who is set to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season with a cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Former Inter captain Icardi ruptured his cruciate ligament during his current side’s 3-2 victory at home against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League last week.
Though Galatasaray already have Victor Osimhen on loan from Napoli, the Turkish Giants are hoping to add another reinforcement to their attacking unit to make up for the Icardi loss.
According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Jovic is one of the strikers that Galatasaray are currently monitoring ahead of the January transfer window.
Jovic has only featured in three of Milan’s Serie A matches this season and is not currently on the club’s UEFA list, which means he is ineligible to feature in the Champions League, aside from the fact that he is currently nursing an injury.
The Serbia international is also behind Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham in the Rossoneri pecking order, while teenage sensation Francesco Camarda was also handed his first Serie A start against Cagliari over the weekend.
Though a price tag has not been mentioned for Jovic’s sale, his contract is due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, so a move to Galatasaray would likely be a low-cost affair.
