Haaland fires City to crucial victory over Arsenal

The crucial top-of-the-table encounter began in frantic fashion, with Cherki seeing a deflected strike clip the inside of the post and fall into the hands of Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya after just four minutes.

12 minutes later Cherki was not to be denied, receiving the ball from Matheus Nunes 25 yards away from goal and expertly dribbling beyond Gabriel and Declan Rice, before finishing accurately into the bottom corner with his right foot.

Just 107 seconds after that sublime opener, Kai Havertz levelled for the Gunners, pressing high to deflect Gianluigi Donnarumma’s clearance into the net.

Shortly after the interval, we almost restored our lead twice, as a loose ball from a corner fell at the feet of Haaland, but his snapshot clipped the outside of the post, before Jeremy Doku’s strike was gathered by Raya.

On the hour mark, it was Arsenal’s turn to strike the post as Eberechi Eze’s powerful strike cannoned off the left post, but with our next attack, Haaland made sure to get his shot between the posts, sweeping into the bottom left corner after brilliant work in the build up by Nico O’Reilly to send the Etihad into a frenzy.

The visitors looked for a way back into the game and struck the post for a second time as Gabriel’s header deflected off O’Reilly and onto the base of the right post.

We stayed focused to claim a huge victory, moving three points behind the Gunners with a game in hand to come.
