Garro alleges disrespect from referee after Corinthians’ 2-0 loss at Internacional | OneFootball

Corinthians captain Rodrigo Garro said he was disrespected by referee Alex Gomes Stefano after a 2-0 defeat to Internacional at Beira-Rio in the Copa do Brasil last-16 first leg on Sunday.

"We need to talk about the treatment and how the referee talks to us. We have to measure how we speak to the referee, and he has to measure it too. It is us with the referee, and the referee with us, for better Brazilian football," he said, speaking to Prime Video.

Garro said he had been urged by goalkeeper Hugo Souza to raise the issue. "I will keep to myself what was said. I do not want to talk because I would be sent off for speaking."

The result leaves the holders with work to do. Corinthians must win by three goals at Neo Química Arena on Thursday at 20:00, Brasília time, to advance, while a two-goal victory would take the tie to penalties.

"I think the result did not reflect the game. We did not get the win in a knockout match. We still have 90 minutes, we will play at home with the support of our fans," he said.

"We are at a very big institution. Now it is about talking less and working more, knowing there are 90 minutes left."
