Gary Neville has clarified why he initially named Daniel Farke as his Premier League manager of the season, admitting he had misunderstood the question and instead regards Mikel Arteta as manager of the year while calling Farke his most improved pick, speaking on Sky Sports.
Farke has led Leeds to safety with three games to spare. They have taken four points from the next two and can reach 50 with victory over West Ham on Sunday. The Whites could finish as high as 10th, with 15th the lowest possible.
Leeds are unbeaten in eight and have lost only four of their last 24 league matches, a sequence dating back to early December.
Even so, Farke was overlooked in the official Premier League Manager of the Season nominations. The six-man shortlist featured Arteta, Pep Guardiola, Keith Andrews, Andoni Iraola, Manchester United interim boss Michael Carrick and Regis Le Bris at Sunderland.
Neville has recently praised Leeds’ turnaround, noting intense pressure around October and November before a formation switch at Manchester City in November proved pivotal. Facing City, then Chelsea and Liverpool, he feared back-to-back defeats would cost Farke his job. Instead, Leeds beat Chelsea and fought back to draw with Liverpool.
