Roma faces Parma tomorrow at the Tardini, and they won’t be able to relax.
The Giallorossi won’t be able to afford any slip-ups to continue dreaming of fourth place, especially given the big match between Atalanta and Milan and the derby in the penultimate round.
Gian Piero Gasperini gave some comments at a press conference on the eve of the match against Parma.
The Giallorossi coach began by talking about the future: “The present counts, and tomorrow’s match counts. Every match is crucial, and our full focus is on that. These situations are tied to club decisions, and we need to address them. With the end of the season, things can evolve quickly.”
Gasperini then reiterated his strong faith in his players: “The group is strong, and I believe we must always improve. The Champions League brings more resources, otherwise no one would care about the position. It’s not the only thing that guarantees a good transfer market; some clubs do well even without it.”
Regarding Roma’s future, the coach didn’t express himself as he usually does: “I’m not interested in the director, I’m focused on tomorrow’s match. I repeat that the coach and sporting director must work together, speak honestly and work for the good of the club with the aim of improving their team, compatible with the coach’s needs and those of the club.”
“There’s too little talk about football, I keep saying. The only topics that are discussed are related to the future. My way of playing has brought me results, and I’m trying to develop my strengths by looking for suitable players. I don’t talk to anyone and I don’t think about renewals. I’m only working to win tomorrow’s match. The other issues, if I’m involved, will be discussed with the club. The club is very busy right now, it’s probably not the right time.”
Gasp also commented on the potential sale of Koné to capitalize: “In modern football, there are no unsellables. Unmissable offers are rare and very few. Koné is strong, I hope he can stay. Faced with unmarketable offers, he would allow you to do other things, and that applies to everyone.”
The coach then focused on the potential qualification for the Champions League: “All the teams are in it for fourth place, everything is playable point by point. For me, it’s been a satisfying season; if we qualify for the Champions League, it would be a great satisfaction.”
The coach also took stock of the conditions of some players: “Soulé had a long period of suffering with pubalgia, but he is overcoming it. He is not at his best, but his contribution is always important. Dybala is training regularly, he is improving. It is not a question of condition, but of recovering strength in his leg. Angelino has had an unexpected season for everyone, in recent weeks he is approaching his best form and this gives us hope for next season”.
Looking ahead, Gasperini has a clear vision: “Sooner or later, we’ll have to be a strong team, there can be no doubt about that. Everyone will have to be convinced of what they’re going to do.”
