Gennaro Gattuso wants Mario Gila to stay at Lazio, and the defender has not closed the door on another season in Rome. According to Radio Laziale, the new head coach received a positive response after talks, with Gila thought to have several offers but still on a relatively low salary.
The 25-year-old is under contract until June 2026 and has shown no intention of extending. With time ticking, this summer is effectively Lazio’s last chance to bank a fee.
Any sale would be complicated by Real Madrid’s 50% sell-on clause. With that in mind, president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani are weighing up keeping him despite the risk of losing him for nothing.
Lazio are open to a sale at around €25 million, which would effectively leave them with €12.5m after the clause. If such an offer arrives, Gila could depart.
Napoli are viewed as frontrunners to sign him, particularly after agreeing terms with Massimiliano Allegri, who had targeted the defender at AC Milan. Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Juventus have also been linked.
