Gattuso ‘to give’ Samuel Gigot another chance at Lazio | OneFootball

Samuel Gigot could be handed a fresh start at Lazio under Gennaro Gattuso if he returns to fitness, Il Corriere dello Sport reports.

The centre-back joined in summer 2024, featuring regularly under Marco Baroni, though Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Gila were ahead of him.

This season was ruined by an ankle injury that required surgery, so he did not make any appearance under Maurizio Sarri.

Gattuso has been fond of the defender from their time at Olympique Marseille in 2023 to 2024, when he named him stand-in captain in Valentin Rongier’s absence.

With Romagnoli on the verge of joining Al-Sadd, and Gila potentially moving to Napoli or Atalanta, Lazio could be left light at centre-back. Oliver Provstgaard should be promoted to a starting role, and a new defender will be bought. In that context, Gattuso may welcome an experienced ally if Gigot proves his fitness.

Gigot’s deal runs until June 2027, so this could be his final campaign at Formello.
