Speaking in an interview with RAC1, Barcelona midfielder Gavi gave his opinion on the situation of goalkeeper and captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The German international, currently sidelined with a back injury that needed surgery, is staring at the possibility of losing the team captaincy, with Barça unhappy with some of his recent actions.
However, it appears that despite the club’s stance, Ter Stegen continues to enjoy the support of his teammates.
Indeed, the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Pau Cubarsi, and Ferran Torres have spoken in support of the 33-year-old, with Gavi also joining in.
“Marc is the first captain in the team, and in the end, the players also vote. Whatever the team decides, so be it. He has had a very tough injury,” said Gavi.

“Marc is a club legend and must be respected for the way he is. When he comes back from injury, we’ll see and the coach will decide. What is clear is that he is a club legend and he must be respected,” he added.
Gavi received praise from Hansi Flick for his performance in Barcelona’s 7-3 win over FC Seoul, where he scored the team’s sixth goal. The German coach highlighted that Gavi “pushed like a captain” – a role the Andalusian would be proud to take on.
“I am very proud to be able to wear the armband. It’s a dream for me to wear it. It’s something that motivates me even more to give that extra when I wear the armband,” said Gavi.
The teenager also admitted he does not know whether he will be chosen as one of the team’s captains this season, saying:
“There are captains and you have to respect the hierarchy. Obviously it’s a dream for me to wear the Barça armband. It’s a dream that every Cule thinks about. I would love to wear it. I think the players will vote for it, for sure.”
