Gaviões president on SAFIEL launch, Corinthians statute reform

The leader of the organized supporters group commented on the club’s alleged lack of interest in learning about the project: “For us, it’s actually a surprise. Right now, the least we can do is listen to the proposals, understand some ideas. The minimum that the Corinthians Council and other figures should do is to hear the proposal.”

According to Ale, there has historically been reluctance regarding the SAF topic, especially in the format where club ownership is transferred to an individual or company. But he sees SAFIEL as a model with “plausible” ideas, though he refrains from giving an opinion at this time. “I, as president, cannot make any kind of decision. I spoke with the creators of the project and yes, we will take this idea to our Gaviões Council, which includes the founders and presidents,” he explained.

He continued on the subject: “It’s important to have the humility to at least listen to their project. After that, we can take a more certain, more forceful stance. I think it’s time for us to at least reflect and understand that Corinthians’ situation is very bad. If there are people with good ideas who can get Corinthians out of this situation, I think it’s up to us to give them that attention, right?”

According to him, the SAFIEL proposal will be brought to the Gaviões Deliberative Council, so that later the supporters can take a position, not by omission, but with caution. “Everyone saw what happened regarding a (recent) president, so of course caution is very important now. But to refuse to listen, we have never had that arrogance in our history, especially when it could be something that benefits Corinthians, which is our greatest reason,” he assured.

Ale also spoke about the draft of the statute reform, analyzing the inclusion of the right to vote for Fiel Torcedor members: “It’s our project. Our intentions have always been to help Corinthians. We heard yesterday that the social club pays for itself, we have doubts. But our Fiel Torcedor model is to help both football and the social club. That’s one of the things we will fight for,” he said.

He also took the opportunity to criticize the lack of accountability of directors for Corinthians’ financial situation, and praised the decision of the CD president to keep the vote open at the meeting that will analyze the reform project: “I think the open vote is very important, because the councilor leaves that comfort zone. He will have to say why he is approving or rejecting the statute reform.”

Asked if he sees the possibility of both projects — statutory reform and SAFIEL — moving forward together, Ale said yes. “Especially because yesterday’s project is more related to the social club, which also affects football. Here (SAFIEL), they really emphasize professionalization, something that is lacking in Corinthians’ current management. It’s too much about friends of friends, etc. So, I think it’s possible to combine both things, for both the social club and football,” he declared.

A few hours after the launch of SAFIEL, the Gaviões da Fiel released two statements, about Tuesday’s event and also the draft of the statutory reform. Check them out in full below:

REFORM OF THE SCCP STATUTE AND THE PRESENCE OF GAVIÕES AT THE LAUNCH OF SAFIEL

“Gaviões da Fiel expresses its position on the draft reform of the Social Statute of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, presented on 10/27 by the president of the Deliberative Council, Dr. Romeu Tuma Jr.

We recognize important advances. Several points defended by collectives and supporters have finally been incorporated — the result of years of mobilization. However, some sections still diverge from what Fiel thinks. The proposal to expand positions and make the Fiel Torcedor plan more elitist, which could be called ‘football member,’ is financially unfeasible. We advocate for an accessible model, with the right to vote, without access to the social club, monthly, and at a fair price. Charging 50% of the social club’s monthly fee is — once again — making the people’s team elitist.

The open vote in the Deliberative Council is essential. Transparency is vital. Each councilor must take a public stance, and the supporters — along with the press — need to follow closely. We will not accept setbacks or maneuvers that try to block the progress of the reform. Every vote will be watched. Every stance will be remembered.

Gaviões da Fiel will be attentive, mobilized, and active. We have fought for decades for a Corinthians of the people and we will not back down. The reform is urgent, but it needs to be debated with those who live the club. Fiel wants to listen, but also wants to be heard.

We reaffirm our commitment to democratic debate and to building a more transparent and popular Corinthians.”

LAUNCH OF SAFIEL

“This Tuesday (28), the Gaviões board was present at the launch of SAFIEL — a proposal that aims to professionalize management, expand mechanisms of control and ethics, and ensure greater participation of the supporters. After the meeting, the board committed to forwarding the project to the Supporters’ Deliberative Council for analysis and collective positioning. The extraordinary meeting has already been scheduled and will be held at the Gaviões Headquarters, on 11/6, at 8 p.m.

Corinthians needs a management model worthy of its greatness. We will remain firm for a fairer, more democratic, and efficient club.”
