According to Superdeporte, Valencia captain José Luis Gayà was taken to a Seville hospital after two head clashes with Juanlu, then discharged and able to travel back with the team. He had suffered dizziness and blurred vision, prompting thorough checks.
The game paused around the first quarter hour after the initial collision. Gayà briefly returned but the pair’s heads met again in another aerial duel, and LaLiga protocols demand maximum caution in such cases, including withdrawal if a player loses consciousness.
He tried to continue but stopped in minute 24, sat down and was replaced by Jesús Vázquez. On the bench he told medical staff his sight was not clear, after which he was sent for precautionary tests.
Following observation, doctors gave him the all clear and he rejoined the squad for the journey home. Juanlu also underwent hospital checks to rule out any brain injury.
After the match, Hugo Duro dedicated the win to Gayà and said his condition was good. He praised the captain’s commitment, noted his 400 appearances and called him a club legend, adding he expected him back soon.
Valencia will monitor Gayà’s progress in the coming hours, with expectations that his recovery continues positively.
