AC Milan are looking to make a midfield signing in January and there is one name that stands out above the other names on the list.
Ismael Bennacer’s injury has eroded the depth that Milan have in that particular department and it is has forced both Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders to work overtime. The idea the management have, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, is to bring them some help in the winter.
Morten Frendrup is ‘the opportunity that Milan would like to seize’ in the upcoming window. The Dane, born in 2001, knows Italian football well having been at Genoa since January 2022.
He could arrive at Milanello for a modest fee of €15-20m, considering the difficult economic situation of the Grifone’s ownership group which is what makes him particularly tempting.
Frendrup is described as a ‘classic midfielder in front of the defence’, who recovers balls, breaks up the opponent’s play and passes simply but effectively to start counters.
In Paulo Fonseca’s mind, the Dane would be the perfect deputy to Fofana, as well as his possible partner in the games where a bit of extra protection for the defence is needed.
The other name being evaluated is Carney Chukwuemeka, who has been on Geoffrey Moncada’s radar for years. He could arrive on loan with an option to buy, given the relationship between Chelsea and Milan is excellent.
