Bob Faesen of HLN has revealed that Genk and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement over the transfer of Greek wonderkid Kos Karetsas. The 18-year-old is keen on a move to Borussia Dortmund and now the two clubs have agreed a deal that will break Genk’s transfer record for a player sold. The exact fee has not yet been revealed, but Karetsas is now likely to sign a five-year deal with Borussia Dortmund and head over to the Bundesliga. Genk had been hoping for a fee of around €35m.

Karetsas is just the latest highly rated talent to come out of the Genk academy. The Greek teenager joins the likes of Bilal El Khannous in graduating from the Genk academy into the first team as a teenager. Karetsas made his debut as a 16-year-old during the 2023/2024 season before going on to play 39 games the following season, scoring three goals and grabbing three assists. Despite Genk’s struggles during the 2025/2026 campaign, Karetsas had a breakout year. The 18-year-old played 49 games for Genk in all competitions. He scored another three goals but also added 14 assists.

Karetsas wanted to move to Borussia Dortmund out of all the teams that were interested in him as he saw them as the best option when it comes to developing as a player.
