Gérard Lopez sells Bordeaux, club ‘can avoid’ liquidation | OneFootball

Gérard Lopez has sold Bordeaux, after British investment fund Sparta Capital assembled the money to buy the club on Friday morning, Sud Ouest reports.

The takeover is for about €10 million. The group, founded by Franck Tuil in 2021, had until Friday to complete the purchase before an appeal at the Comité national olympique et sportif français, CNOSF.

With new financial guarantees in place, Bordeaux can hope that its exclusion from all national competitions and relegation to the sixth tier will be lifted on appeal.

The spectre of judicial liquidation has eased.

This development ends the Lopez era and gives the club a possible lifeline, pending the appeal outcome.
