Germany announced the final squad for this summer's U19 European championship. Head coach Christian Wörns, who extended his contract after booking Germany's place for the tournament in Wales, named 20 players from 14 clubs.
Bochum's Francis Onyeka will be the captain of the side. Adin Licina from Juventus is the only foreign based player in the squad, while Tom Wissbereit will also travel with the team as a third goalkeeper for training sessions.
The semi-finalists would qualify for the 2027 U20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Germany lost the nine-goal thriller in the semi-final against Spain last year.
“I feel especially sorry for players who have frequently participated in training camps over the past two years but are now unable to attend due to injuries," said Wörns after picking 18 outfield players and two goalkeepers.
“We're approaching the European Championship with motivation and full of anticipation for the matches against strong international opponents.”
Germany will start their campaign against Denmark on June 28th before facing hosts Wales and record winners Spain in Group A. Italy, Croatia, Ukraine and Serbia will contest for semi-final spots in the other group. Holders Netherlands were eliminated during the qualification rounds for the final tournament.
