On a redemption night for the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann’s side won 4-0 against Luxembourg and collected very important three points while also boosting their goal difference after a difficult start to the World Cup qualification.

Here are our German player ratings from the game:

Germany Starting XI Player Ratings:

GK: Oliver Baumann - 6/10

Hoffenheim's goalkeeper exuded calmness, but was not really tested throughout the game. He did not have to save a single shot, but reacted quickly when teammate Jonathan Tah stayed down after receiving a knock on the ankle - top teammate.

RB: Joshua Kimmich - 10/10

Are we sure Kimmich doesn't like it more to play as a right-back? Two goals, a great grip on the game, heavily involved in Germany's attacks while also being defensively solid. Could not have had a better game than tonight.

CB: Jonathan Tah - 6/10

Tah brought his Bayern-form to the national team: he looked calm, collected and crucially: NOT prone to errors! But, he also did not have to do a lot of defensive work in this game, therefore his rating can't be much higher than it is.

CB: Nico Schlotterbeck - 7/10

A great return to the national team for the Dortmund defender. Schlotterbeck looked lively in the build-up play and tried to find his teammates with many long balls. Substituted at half-time, due to his long injury.

LB: David Raum - 9/10

As always, Raum brought a lot of energy and intensity to Germany's game. Already noticable with his crosses a few minutes into the game. Got his first goal for Germany with a great freekick. Man-of-the-match for many.

CDM: Leon Goretzka - 7/10

Seemingly had the intention of reminding everyone what a box-to-box midfielder looks like. Was as busy and involved in Luxembourg's box as Woltemade. Did not get a goal, even though Kimmich tried hard to get an assist for him. Goretzka also profits from Bayern being in great form - right now, a good partner for players like Kimmich, Stiller or Pavlović.

CDM: Aleksandar Pavlović - 8/10

Looked really solid and calm in what's usually Kimmich's role. Got a special praise from legend Bastian Schweinsteiger after the game. When fit, Pavlović is a great player in this Germany side, who provides good chip/long balls for the forwards, while also keeping an eye out for any gaps in the back.

RM: Karim Adeyemi - 5/10

Adeyemi was not bad at all - he just was not able to shine as much as his teammates did in this game. He brings a different element to Germany's game by looking for 1v1 situations and therefore provides a certain unpredictability. Not very successful tonight, however.

CAM: Serge Gnabry - 10/10

Another 10/10 performance, Gnabry is really flying high at the moment. Used all his momentum from the last few weeks and showed his class for Germany tonight. He was the most dangerous player on the pitch, getting one nice goal, one that got ruled out - and even a “phantom” goal, where most fans thought his shot went in. Special praise from Nagelsmann for his defensive work as well.

LM: Florian Wirtz - 7/10

Germany's player of the year visibly struggled with his confidence in the beginning of the game; Wirtz appeared visibly cautious in many dribblings at first, but he managed to turn it around after Germany's second goal. Should've gotten an assist, but Woltemade couldn't finish Germany's counter attack in the 33rd minute. Side note: another great freekick from him, this time against the woodwork.

ST: Nick Woltemade - 5/10

You can see that he tried very hard to have an impact on the game, but he sadly feels detached from the rest of the team in too many situations. Should've scored from Wirtz's pass in the 33rd minute. On the other hand, his movement in the game allowed Wirtz, Adeyemi and especially Gnabry to exploit the gaps in Luxembourg's defense. Woltemade's first goal for Germany is coming soon.

Substitutes:

Waldemar Anton (for Nico Schlotterbeck, '46) - 5/10

Jonathan Burkardt (for Nick Woltemade, '61) - 5/10

Ridle Baku (for Karim Adeyemi, '61) - 6/10

Maximilian Beier (for Serge Gnabry, '68) - N/A

Nathaniel Brown (for David Raum, '82) - NA

Only players who featured for at least 30 minutes were rated.
