Christian Wörns’ Germany U19 national team has successfully reached the semi-finals of the 2026 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Wales, unlocking a massive double reward in the process.

Despite suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat against a dominant Spain side in their final Group A match, Germany advanced to the knockout stages in second place. The foundations were laid early on with a dramatic 4-3 opening victory over Denmark, followed by a convincing 4-0 win against hosts Wales in Wrexham.

By reaching the final four, the DFB youngsters have achieved their primary objective. Crucially, a semi-final spot automatically secures Germany’s qualification for the 2027 FIFA U20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan next year.

A major driving force behind the tournament success has been the fluid offensive partnership up front. Led by captain Francis Onyeka – who recently joined SV Elversberg on loan from Leverkusen – the attack was fired up by Hamburg’s highly-rated starlet Otto Stange, who bagged three crucial goals during the group stage. Interestingly, Stange was also loaned to Elversberg last season till February, further highlighting the club’s growing reputation for developing top-tier German talents. 

The squad now shifts its focus to Wednesday’s semi-final clash against Ukraine, highly motivated to chase their first U19 continental crown since 2014.
