After a highly successful September international break, Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi is once again back with the Germany U21s this month. For the time being, that suits the former Hannover 96 academy man just fine. The 21-year-old has nevertheless revealed to Sky Sports Italia that he is open to switching his international allegiance to his native Italy.

Tresoldi was born in Cagliari to an Italian father and Italian mother of Argentine descent. In principle, he can represent Italy, Germany, and Argentina internationally. The fact that he doesn’t appear to be on German senior Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann’s radar just yet might lead to him opting for a different path.

Tresoldi spoke to Sky Italy prior to Brugge’s Champions League fixture against Atalanta Bergamo this week. Ahead of the excitement of facing his mother’s hometown club in the UCL, the high-flying striker noted that he was ready should Italian national team head coach Gennaro Gattuso wish to talk to him.

The rules permit it, and my phone is on,” Tresoldi said. “If Gattuso wants to talk to me, I would be very happy. For now, I’ve decided for Germany even if it’s only the U21s. I feel comfortable, but we’ll see what the future holds.
