Gerson a concern for Cruzeiro ahead of Flamengo Libertadores ties | OneFootball

Cruzeiro beat Coritiba 1-0 on Thursday 30 in the 21st round of the Brasileirão, but Gerson departed with right thigh pain. The setback raises concern ahead of the Libertadores meetings with Flamengo.

According to Coluna Do Fla, at 23 minutes of the second half Gerson burst forward then slid in to dispossess an opponent, immediately felt his right thigh and requested a change, with Matheus Henrique introduced by Artur Jorge.

Gerson is due to be reassessed by the medical department on Friday 31. Cruzeiro also remain in the Copa do Brasil and sit seventh in the league.

Cruzeiro already have two confirmed absences for Flamengo. Gabriel Pec fractured his left tibia, while Sinisterra sustained a serious left thigh muscle injury.

The first leg is set for 12 August at 21:30 Brasília time at the Mineirão. The return is on 19 August at the same time at the Maracanã, giving Flamengo home support for the decider.

Flamengo finished top of Group A with 16 points from six games, the best overall record in the opening phase. Cruzeiro ended second in Group D with 11 points from three wins, two draws and one defeat, so they will conclude their last 16 away from home.
