At 34, former Santos forward Geuvânio is attempting a late-career reset at Votoraty, who compete in São Paulo’s fifth and final tier. According to Globo.com, he has managed only seven appearances across the past four years as recurring muscle injuries and depression derailed him.

He marked his Votoraty debut with an equaliser against Flamengo-SP in the Paulista Segunda Divisão, ending a personal goal drought of nearly four years.

The club have returned to the game after 14 years out, and the veteran is aiming to finish with dignity while confronting mental health issues. He has sought psychological support and says repeated calf problems sapped his motivation.

He spent 2024 away from the professional scene, drifted into amateur football, and without an agent fielded approaches via Instagram. Financially secure after moves to Flamengo, Atlético-MG and especially China, he joined Tianjin Quanjian in 2016 for R$ 53.7 million with a salary of R$ 1 million per month. He stresses the comeback is about signing off properly and sharing the pitch with his children.

Geuvânio’s peak came at Santos under Dorival Júnior, with 114 matches, 24 goals and nine assists between 2011 and 2015, earning the nickname Geuvânio Ronaldo. He later featured for Flamengo in 2017 and 2018, leaving before the 2019 trophy sweep under Jorge Jesus. Votoraty previously launched Fernando Diniz’s coaching career, winning Série A3 and the Copa Paulista in 2009 then reaching the Copa do Brasil the following year.
