Celtic FC Women rounded off 2025 with a big three points, running out 2-1 winners against Hibernian.

Maria McAneny got the Hoops off to the perfect start, scoring just 10 seconds into the match, before the Ghirls were pegged back in the first half.

The victory was sealed in the second half though as Saoirse Noonan struck just before the hour mark.

With just one match left of the year, the Celts travelled through to the capital to take on Hibernian at Meadowbank Stadium.

There was one change to the side from last weekend’s 4-0 win over Aberdeen, with Maria McAneny returning from injury.

And it was a very welcome return as the midfielder scored within a minute of the game kicking-off.

It was an unbelievable way to do so too, as McAneny scored the opener straight from kick-off, striking from the halfway line and lobbing the goalkeeper from range.

It was a strong first half showing from the Hoops who put plenty of pressure on the Hibernian goal.

Amy Gallacher was first to test the shot-stopper’s resolve, volleying an effort towards goal which stung the goalkeepers palms.

On the second attempt, Robertson struck the clearance from distance, but it was once again well held.

Next, it was Emma Lawton who would go close to doubling the advantage after a powerful run forward through the Hibs midfield.

Breaking through on the right-hand side, the full-back hit a powerful low strike towards goal, which was tipped round the post.

The Ghirls still had to be wary of the Hoops’ threat, and that was shown when the home side levelled things up before the break.

Sliding the ball home from close range after a fortunate bounce inside the area, Scarlett Herron scored in her third consecutive game to pull Hibs level once more.

It was a blow before the break, but it was a positive half for Celtic to build upon as they headed in all square.

Heading into the second half, it was once against McAneny who would be causing all sorts of bother for the Hibs defence, winning a penalty just before the hour mark.

After being fouled inside the area, up stepped Saoirse Noonan, who initially seen her effort from 12-yards saved.

But she was quick to react, tapping home to fire Celtic back ahead and make the score 2-1.

Just moments later, the Celts thought they had a third as Kelly Clark turned the ball home from close range after a knockdown by Noonan. But the flag was quickly up for offside.

Although the Hoops faced pressure from the home side in the second half, it was a strong defensive performance.

Lisa Rodgers commanded her area, with the Celtic backline remaining resolute to secure the win in Edinburgh.

It was a superb way for the Hoops to round off 2025, with three points as we now head into the winter break.
