According to La Repubblica, Gian Piero Gasperini was not in favour of Roma signing Robinio Vaz this winter, preferring ready-made options over prospects.
The 68-year-old coach felt the former Marseille player needed two seasons in Serie B to reach the level required for the top flight.
Gasperini and the hierarchy were not aligned on recruitment. Sporting director Frederic Massara proposed Rasmus Höjlund and Jonathan Rowe last summer, then Jérémie Boga in winter, which he turned down.
Roma nevertheless secured Vaz in winter on a loan with an obligation to buy worth more than 25 million euros.
Since arriving, Vaz, 19, has made 11 appearances for Roma, scoring once in Serie A and supplying two assists in the Europa League.
