Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper and reported Manchester United target Gianluigi Donnarumma has issued a strongly worded statement regarding his future.
United are considering making changes to their goalkeeping department before the close of the summer transfer window, and Donnarumma continues to be mentioned as a player of interest.
PSG are prepared to part ways with Donnarumma after contract renewal talks failed to bear fruit.
With his contract set to expire next summer, PSG are determined not to lose him for free, prompting their push to sell him this month.
United made an enquiry for him earlier in the window and it looks like the club’s interest has not wavered. On Monday, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Donnarumma’s relationship with PSG has completely broken down. Romano named the Premier League as the 26-year-old’s most likely destination.
More recently, David Ornstein noted that a swoop for Donnarumma is unlikely, unless Andre Onana leaves Old Trafford.
However, this has done little to quell rumours of a potential switch to the Red Devils for the Italy international.
Amidst all this, Donnarumma has released a statement, confirming he has been forced to leave PSG after being dropped from the team.
The Champions League winner wrote on social media [via Fabrizio Romano on X], “To the special Paris fans,”
“From the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.”
“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened.”
“I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done. If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it.”
“I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home.”
“To my teammates – my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers.”
“Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour.”
“Thank you, Paris.”
It remains to be seen how this latest development will impact United’s chase for Donnarumma, but confirmation of his forced exit would likely open the door to a cut-price deal.
