Gianni Infantino is considering selling stakes in the World Cup to private investors via a new company, according to The Times, a plan intended to raise revenues and already drawing a sharp response from UEFA.

Nine days after the 2026 World Cup ended, the FIFA president is exploring a vehicle that would manage both the World Cup and the Club World Cup.

The structure is designed to grow FIFA income and could benefit Infantino personally, with him tipped to head it after his final term ends in 2031, if, as current trends suggest, he is re-elected in 2027.

The report added that figures close to US president Donald Trump, whose proximity to Infantino deepened during the last World Cup, are involved. Joshua Kushner, brother of the ultraconservative president’s son-in-law, is tipped to front the investor group.

UEFA responded on X, taking the matter extremely seriously and warning that such a boundary should not be crossed. It said football’s soul and governance are not tradeable assets, questioned transparency over who would gain financially, and insisted the game is not FIFA’s to sell.
