FIFA president Gianni Infantino has condemned, in an Instagram story, the racist comments made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla towards Kylian Mbappé, saying in the post that he denounced them unequivocally.

The abuse came around France’s 1-0 win over Paraguay.

The message expressed solidarity across football and society with the France captain, and urged a collective effort to fight and defeat racism.

Mbappé has been publicly backed by the Fédération française de football, assistant coach Guy Stéphan and President Emmanuel Macron.

Infantino has himself faced heavy criticism, particularly during this World Cup.
