The Girona team has once again missed a great opportunity to win at Barça's stadium. Míchel's team played a brave, intense match with clear ideas, but they left Montjuïc empty-handed after a cruel ending: a goal by Araujo in added time gave Barça the victory (2-1) and left Girona without a reward, despite having done more than enough to at least earn a point.
Barça started clearly dominating, and Pedri scored the 1-0 in the first dangerous chance. However, the goal woke Girona up. Míchel's team, which had opted for a back four and placed Arnau Martínez in midfield alongside Witsel, began to find spaces behind Barça's central defenders. This persistence led to the equalizer: after a corner, a header from Arnau allowed Witsel to execute a spectacular bicycle kick to make it 1-1 and silence Montjuïc.
From there, Girona had three very clear chances to take the lead: Szczesny stopped a one-on-one with Vanat, Portu hit the post, and Bryan Gil narrowly missed a shot. Míchel's team easily found the space behind Barça's central defenders and caused trouble with their quick transitions.
In the second half, the match became more balanced. Barça looked for more shots from outside the box, and Gazzaniga responded confidently. Míchel made substitutions to try to maintain the draw, but in the last play of the match, Araujo scored the 2-1, leaving Girona stunned.
Despite the defeat, the red-and-whites left a very good impression. They played on equal terms with Barça, but their lack of finishing in front of goal once again proved costly.
