Girona FC participated this Monday in the inauguration of the II International Symposium on Minoritized Languages and Football, "Language Makes Us Win," held at the Barcelona History Museum.

Ignasi Mas-Bagà, general director of Girona FC, took part in the first round table of the symposium alongside representatives from RCD Espanyol and FC Barcelona. The session served to share experiences and reflections on the role of language in the world of football and the clubs' commitment to its promotion.

Organized by Plataforma per la Llengua, the symposium spans two days and brings together experts, professionals, and sports entities in various round tables and conferences with national and international speakers. Among the topics discussed are the linguistic commitment of clubs, the role of fans as agents of normalization, the use of language in grassroots and formative football, and the influence of sports media.

In his speech, Mas-Bagà also emphasized Girona FC's commitment to Catalan as the club's own language. The general director explained that Catalan is the main language of Girona, both in internal communication and in official communications. He also highlighted that the club's main social media profiles are in Catalan and that these are, moreover, the ones with the largest number of followers.

The case of Míchel Sánchez

During the debate, the importance of encouraging players from First Division clubs to publicly express themselves in Catalan was also highlighted. In this regard, Mas-Bagà pointed out the case of Girona FC's coach, Míchel Sánchez, whom he described as a "role model" for his willingness to use Catalan in his public appearances.

With its participation in this debate space, Girona FC reaffirms its commitment to the promotion and normalization of the Catalan language within the sports field as well.
