‘Given His Approval’ – Newcastle United Face Serious Competition For Experienced Midfielder | OneFootball

Newcastle United target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ‘has given his approval’ to a move to Italian giants AC Milan, with the Rossoneri serious rivals for his signature.

Hojbjerg is on the books at French giants Marseille, having joined from Tottenham Hotspur, initially on loan, in 2024.

Marseille are under pressure to bring in cash and the 31-year-old midfielder is tipped to move on from the Stade Velodrome this summer.

Newcastle, who have had their midfield ripped out with the sales of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, are keen on the experienced Dane.

AC Milan though are also admirers of the former Spurs man and could open talks with Marseille over a deal soon, dependent upon departures.

And crucially for AC Milan, Hojbjerg ‘has already given his approval’ to the move to the San Siro, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com).

The midfielder would be happy to make the move to Ruben Amorim’s Rossoneri if an agreement can be reached.

Hjobjerg has never played in Serie A, having turned out in the Bundesliga, Premier League and Ligue 1, meaning Italian football would represent a new adventure.

Whether AC Milan could financially compete with Newcastle for Hjobjerg is unclear, but they will hope the player’s desire can count for much if it comes down to a shootout with the Magpies.

Hjobjerg made a quick impression in Ligue 1 at Marseille and was dubbed one of the best players in the French league just months after his arrival.

The presence of Roberto De Zerbi, now ironically Tottenham boss, was revealed to have been one of the key factors that tempted Hjobjerg to sign for Marseille.

Hjobjerg helped Marseille to finish second in Ligue 1 under De Zerbi in his first season at the club, while last term they could only come fifth, with De Zerbi departing in February.

He does now appear likely to end his time at Marseille this summer, with the only question remaining which club will be able to scoop up the experienced midfielder.
