Rouven Schröder has said Eugen Polanski will remain in charge of Borussia Mönchengladbach at least until the end of the season.

According to BuLi News, the sporting director spoke after Yannik Engelhardt conceded a penalty in the last action against Mainz, a night when outgoing captain Rocco Reitz was whistled by sections of the home crowd and the winless run stretched to four matches.

Polanski reflected that his side failed to see it out and felt Mainz deserved a point given their dominance across the final 30 minutes.

Schröder added that the team sat deep and that style is secondary to staying in the league, warning that merely settling as they did would not be enough.

Polanski holds a contract to 2028 after a promising interim spell, yet it remains uncertain whether he starts next season in the role.

Schröder said attention now turns to four remaining fixtures, including next week’s meeting with direct rivals Wolfsburg, and accepted they are not satisfied with themselves. He said the coaching question would be parked, that Polanski would lead them over the line, and the club would review the campaign together afterwards.
