Oliver Glasner admitted his Crystal Palace side “lacked any kind of quality” as Macclesfield pulled off one of the great FA Cup shocks.
The non-league outfit secured a memorable 2-1 victory at Moss Rose on Saturday afternoon to knock out the holders in the third round.
Player of the Match Paul Dawson headed the hosts into the lead on the stroke of halftime before Isaac Buckley-Ricketts doubled their lead in the second half.
Yeremy Pino scored a beautiful free kick late on, but it was nothing more than a consolation as Palace went crashing out of the competition to a sixth-tier team.
“Congratulations to Macclesfield,” Glasner told BBC Sport after the final whistle.
“We lacked any kind of quality today. Conceding a set-play from a header; we had to do better. The second goal was slapstick.
“At the other end, if you can’t create clear-cut chances… it’s just a lack of quality what we’ve shown today. We lost and we deserved to lose.
“I was looking for quality from everyone. I brought on more attacking players [at half-time], but I have no explanation for what I’ve seen today.
“You don’t need tactics in these kinds of games. You just have to show what you’re capable of and show a little bit of pride, and you’ll perform in a different way.
“But today we lacked everything.”
Macclesfield will be in the hat for the fourth round draw, which takes place on Monday night after Liverpool face Barnsley at Anfield.
